President's Message

As we approach the April 3, 2008 East Weymouth Neighborhood Association meeting at the Weymouth Lodge of Elks, we are encouraged to see Mayor Sue Kay’s initial collaborative and inclusive approach to
governing. Mayor Kay’s attendance at our February 12th meeting was appreciated by all the EWNA membership who look forward to the Mayor’s updates at future EWNA meetings.

Of special note since our last meeting on January 24, 2008:

Mayor Kay has met with Tri-Town in an attempt to re-negotiate Mayor Madden’s agreement to supply additional amounts of water to Southfield.Meetings have been held with the Cecil Group; Mr. Barry, the developer; and the neighbors to discuss the future of the historic Clapp Memorial building in Central Square, as well as the 40R application pertinent to this development. Congratulations to all the neighbors who
attended these meetings and participated in discussions about their vision for Central Square. Without neighbors’ input, there can be no vision.

The EWNA continues to monitor the CVS Plaza in East Weymouth as Coffman Realty tries to fill the vacancy resulting from the departure of Curves. To its credit, Coffman Realty is working with the neighborhood
for a mutually beneficial solution.

The EWNA continues to monitor other development activities; for example, the Meredith Way project.

The EWNA invites everyone to join us on Thursday, April 3rd, at the Weymouth Lodge of Elks for our now famous delicious Chowda Fest. Your donations will benefit the Weymouth Food Pantry. Many of our
local merchants will be attending this event to greet their regular, valued clients and to welcome new ones.

Start scooping up all your loose pennies because on April 3rd we’ll be collecting Pennies For The Pantry. The proceeds will be matched by the EWNA, the Weymouth Bank and the South Shore Bank, truly good
neighbors.

Best wishes,
Stephen E. Bergfors, President
